Why we built this
Every household and business now runs on its internet connection, yet most people have no idea whether they're getting the speed they pay for. We wanted a speed test that is fast to run, easy to understand, free of ads and trackers, and honest about how it measures.
That's what checkinternetspeedtest.com is: one page, one button, and about 25 seconds between "I wonder…" and a real answer you can act on — or send to your internet provider.
How the test works
When you press start, your browser measures your connection directly — nothing is installed and nothing is sent to us:
- Latency and jitter are measured with sub-millisecond precision on a series of small requests to the nearest point on Cloudflare's global edge network.
- Download speed is measured by pulling data through several parallel streams for about 10 seconds, discarding the TCP ramp-up window so the result reflects sustained throughput, not a lucky spike.
- Upload speed is measured the same way in reverse, sending data to the same network.
We deliberately use multiple parallel connections because single-stream tests under-report on modern high-speed lines, and we report the stable average rather than the peak, because the peak is not what you'll experience day to day.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no logins, no paywalls — the tool is 100% free.
- No ads, no tracking cookies, no analytics profiles.
- No server-side storage of your results — they stay in your browser and you can clear them anytime.
